Bone regeneration before implant treatment
After a tooth is lost, the bone in that area gradually disappears. Bone regeneration rebuilds the foundation in which an implant can be placed stably and predictably for years.

Why bone disappears
The alveolar bone keeps its volume thanks to the load transmitted through the tooth root. Once the tooth is removed the stimulus is gone and the bone begins to remodel. The greatest loss of volume occurs in the first months after extraction. Chronic periodontal inflammation and years of wearing removable dentures deepen the process further.
Techniques we use
- Guided bone regeneration (GBR) — bone biomaterial secured with a membrane that lets bone rebuild without soft tissue growing in
- Sinus floor elevation (sinus lift) — restoring bone height in the posterior maxilla
- Ridge augmentation — widening or heightening the bone crest at the planned implant site
- Socket preservation — protecting bone volume immediately after tooth removal
Not always necessary
Modern full arch protocols such as All-on-4 or zygomatic implants often make bone grafting unnecessary altogether. Whether regeneration is needed is decided by the CT scan — not by the number of missing teeth.
Procedure and healing time
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, and for patients who feel strong anxiety under general anaesthesia. The scope and healing time depend on the technique and the size of the defect. In some cases regeneration can be carried out at the same time as implant placement; in others the implant is placed only once bone remodelling is complete.

What comes after regeneration
Rebuilt bone forms the foundation for a single implant, an implant bridge or a full arch reconstruction. We discuss the further prosthetic plan before treatment starts, so that every stage leads to the final result planned in advance.
